ENsembles

Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is the premiere performing instrumental performing ensemble at Stadium High School. The ensemble is comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors who audition to receive placement into the ensemble. The Wind Ensemble performs four home concerts, many festivals and competitions and students are strongly encouraged to be involved in private lessons with a local professional musician. Weekly sectionals are required. The Band travels over night yearly. In the past the ensemble has performed at Disneyland, the Whistler ConBrio Band Festival and has been involved with Central Washington University, Pacific Lutheran University, the University of Washington, Western Washington University and Puget Sound University.

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band is comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors who are non-auditioned and students entering Stadium to receive placement into the ensemble. The Symphonic Band performs four home concerts, at the regional band festival and students are encouraged to be involved in private lessons with a local professional musician.

Concert Winds

Concert Winds is the ensemble for 9th grade students entering Stadium High School. Students from this ensemble are from middle school from all over the Tacoma area. This ensemble performs at the regional band festival and all students participate in Pep Band.

Percussion Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble is directed at students interested in all things drums. Drumline, percussion ensemble, mallet percussion and Taiko drumming is covered during the school year. Percussion students are able to focus on specific technique and also participate in bands as well.

Pep Band

All Stadium Band students are involved in the Pep Band. This non-marching ensemble performs at all home football and basketball games along with pep rallies and festivals in the community. The Pep Band enjoys playing uptempo covers of favorite rock and pop tunes.

Solo and Ensemble

All Stadium Band and Percussion students are involved in the annual Commencement Bay Regional Solo and Ensemble. Students are given the option to work on a solo, usually with a private instructor, or work in small chamber ensembles. Students work mostly outside of class time to prepare for their 10 minute time slot. This valuable experience allows students take musical skills learned in class and work together to create a musical expression all on their own.

Jazz Band 1

Jazz Band 1 is the auditioned big band at Stadium. Traditional instrumentation (5 saxes, 4-5 trombones, 4-5 trumpets, rhythm section) are used to perform all types of big band jazz music. Small combos are encouraged and rehearsed outside of class time. This ensemble performs at school and also in the community at a variety of venues.

Jazz Band 2

Jazz Band 2 is ideal for the student interested in working on jazz band style and or for the student on a non-traditional jazz instrument to learn the idiom. This ensemble performs at school and also in the community at a variety of venues.

Stadium wind ensemble challenged me to always expect more from myself. More musicality, more dynamic contrast, and more attention to detail. It’s hard to constantly be striving to be better, but wind ensemble provides an environment where the band grows together to make unforgettable music and memories.
